Dr. Ringhofer Receives the 2009 Matthew B. Eisele, M.D.
Physician Excellence Award

(Belleville, Illinois) Dr. Brad Ringhofer received the 2009 Matthew B. Eisele, M.D. Physician Excellence Award, which was presented at Memorial Hospital’s Medical Staff Dinner last November.  Previous recipients include Dr. James Vest and Dr. Jay Haines II.

This award was established to recognize a physician on Memorial’s Medical Staff who exemplifies dedication to medicine, delivery of quality care and a commitment to the community.  The nominee also should inspire others to provide quality service and a high level of care; demonstrate clinical excellence, as well as caring and compassionate communication to patients, families and hospital staff; model teamwork; be responsive to the needs of patients, families and staff; support Memorial as well as its mission and values; participate on hospital and/or medical staff departmental committees; and set a positive example for others.

Dr. Ringhofer, an internist, has been a member of Memorial’s Medical Staff since 1982.  He served as president of the Medical Staff from 2000 to 2002 and is active on numerous medical staff committees as well as Memorial Foundation’s Board of Directors.

In nominating Dr. Ringhofer, a peer described him as “one of the best clinicians in the hospital.  I have seen his compassionate work with families and staff.  He is willing to work, bend, stay, talk, and argue until the best job is done.”

A patient’s family member said, “he emulates everything that is listed - all eight of the award criteria apply to Dr. Ringhofer.  Yes, he does wake people up when his makes his hospital rounds at 5 and 6 a.m., but he’s also calling in prescriptions at 11 p.m.  He is there and is compassionate to the families of his patient and I am sure is admired and respected by his colleagues and nursing staff.  He has touched our lives and our hearts with his gentleness, compassion and thoughtfulness.”

In addition to Dr. Ringhofer, nominees included: Dr. Omar Awad, Dr. Omar Badahman, Dr. Thomas Byrne, Dr. Thomas Cahill, Dr. Douglas Dothager, Dr. Duk Kim, Dr. Stuart Mauch, Dr. Deborah McDermott, Dr. Hans Moosa, Dr. Dwight O’Dell, Dr. Edward Rose, Dr. William Sprich, Dr. John Visconti and Dr. James Wade.

The Matthew B. Eisele, M.D. Physician Excellence Award is named for Memorial’s first medical director.  Prior to serving as Memorial’s medical director, Dr. Eisele was an obstetrician/gynecologist in the community for 22 years.  He was instrumental in shaping the Medical Director’s role into the key position it is today - a liaison between the board of directors, medical staff and administration.
